Gooseneck punches are used when bending C and U-shaped parts. In the other part of the article, we will take a closer look at these tools and discuss in which situations they are helpful.
What characterises gooseneck stamps?
Gooseneck punches feature a relief zone in their working zone. Punches of this type allow the creation of more complex part geometries. When compared to their straight equivalents, goosenecks are larger and heavier. As a relief zone, these punches have a lower press pressure strength per metre.

C-shaped parts and tubes – the gooseneck punch application
To achieve a narrow U or C shape, it will be impossible to use a standard straight punch in most cases. The reason is its shape and the possible collision with the working part of the tool during the bending process. In this case, curved gooseneck punches are used that do not come into contact with the already bent part of the workpiece.
If we do not have such punches in our range, we will have to accept the impossibility of making such items from a single piece of material.

Convenience and more bending options
These punches allow for more advanced part geometries processing using a press brake. Consequently, we are more versatile in the service market. A punch with a relief, additionally mounted on an inverted clamp, allows us to optimise the bending of C-shaped parts. The operator can modify both outer dimensions of the product, while only the middle dimension remains “resultant”. This solution allows faster correction of the dimensions and the certainty that they will be maintained, even if the angles deviate slightly.
