Fiber laser cutting machine is a metal laser cutting machine that uses a fiber laser generator as a light source. It outputs a high-energy density laser beam and is concentrated on the surface of the workpiece to instantly melt and vaporize the area irradiated by the ultra-fine focus spot on the workpiece. Then the laser spot irradiation position is moved by the numerical control mechanical system to realize automatic cutting.

Since the emergence of fiber laser cutting machines, productivity in the field of metal processing has greatly increased. Due to the high cutting precision, small cutting seam, high speed and small cutting deformation of the fiber laser cutting machine, the quality of its processed products is far better than the traditional processing quality. Therefore, fiber laser cutting equipment occupies a large proportion in the metal processing industry. But in the process of using fiber laser cutting machine, some cutting errors sometimes occur.

Why does the fiber laser cutting machine have errors ?

1.There are geometric errors in the product itself, for example, the processed product itself is uneven or has small particles on the surface. The fiber laser cutting machine defaults to the flat sheet cutting data during the cutting process. If the surface of the product is uneven, different areas may be unevenly heated when cutting, the thin plate surface will overheat and melt, and the thick plate surface may not be able to penetrate. Moreover, due to the uneven surface, the laser focus randomly changes with the position of the surface of the processed object.

2.There are programming errors in the processing of fiber laser cutting machines. The machining track on the complex surface is fitted with straight lines, arcs, etc., but there is an error between the fitted curve and the actual curve. This leads to an error between the relative position of the actual focus and the surface of the object to be processed and the ideal programming position.

3.The actual thickness of the material exceeds the cutting range. For example, a 1500W power fiber laser cutting machine can cut carbon steel plates up to 16mm thick. But now to cut a 20mm carbon steel plate, even if it can be cut through, there will definitely be errors or dross at the bottom. Therefore, before cutting, you need to determine the thickness of the plate and the thickness that the equipment can actually cut. The quality accuracy beyond the cutting range cannot be guaranteed.

4.In the cutting process of the fiber laser cutting machine, the error of the focus position will also cause errors during cutting. Many factors will change the relative position of the focal point and the product surface, which will also affect the accuracy of the processed product. For example, the clamping method of fixtures, the level of the machine tool itself, the degree of wear of the rack of the machine bed, etc. Check before cutting to reduce errors.

How to adjust the accuracy?

1.When the spot of the focus laser is adjusted to the minimum, perform a spot shot to establish the initial effect. The focal length is judged by the size of the light spot effect. As long as we look for the laser spot to the smallest point, then this position is the best processing focal length, and then start processing. 

2.When debugging the fiber laser cutting machine, we can use some debugging paper and workpiece waste to point out the accuracy of the focal position. Move the position of the upper and lower laser head height, the laser spot size will have different size changes when it is shot. Make adjustments to different positions several times to find the smallest spot position to determine the focal length and the best position of the laser head. 

3.After the fiber laser cutting machine is installed, a scribing device will be installed on the cutting nozzle of the CNC cutting machine, and a simulated cutting pattern will be drawn through the scribing device. The simulated pattern is a 1m square. A circle with a diameter of 1m is built in, and the four corners are drawn diagonally. After drawing, use a measuring tool to measure whether the drawn circle is tangent to the four sides of the square. Test the distance between the diagonal and the intersection point to determine the cutting accuracy of the equipment.
